In the following example, I used a nine-year-old OM-D E-M1 16-megapixel Micro Four Thirds camera. Even so, it was still excellent at resizing images from older cameras. Further testing showed that doubling and quadrupling an image worked well. If there are flaws, the program magnifies them as well.

The software worked best on photos taken with a high-quality professional lens. I’m using an eight year old computer with relatively low specs by modern standards, but the conversions work in seconds.

You can also add film grain and tiles, and there is also a gallery cover option with different variations of cover available, useful for canvas prints. If you’re using another brand with softer RAW files, you may need to experiment with the sharpening to see what works best for you. That’s why I reduced that setting to zero.

However, as with other programs, the standard sharpening was too much for my camera’s already razor-sharp images.

A full explanation of how these functions work is available in the ON1 Resize User Guide.Ĭhoosing the preset landscape shots worked well for the images I tried for this review. It still uses the proprietary fractal-based algorithm, but the AI optimizes the settings. This has been improved with the AI version for the images I tried with it. I previously found that the Genuine Fractals method of enlarging worked the best. From the right panel, you can both see that the image has been resized. If you deselect the crop tool by selecting the view tool, a resized preview is created so you can zoom in and out. You can also choose the number of pixels per inch you want. Output sizes are specified in pixels, inches, mm, cm, or percentages. They are neatly sorted into different categories to help you quickly select the size and aspect ratio you want.Īfter choosing a preset, further adjustments to aspect ratio and output size can be made within the crop tool using the custom boxes at the top of the screen. Allows you to crop and resize the image to match the media size you will be using. I thought it best to start here and pick a preset closest to the final image you want.

Once loaded, there is a series of presets on the left panel. The photo is rendered before opening, which takes a little over a second on my machine. So, does ON1 Resize AI 2022 live up to this heritage? ON1 Resize AI 2022 by putting its speeds Then ON1 NoNoise AI is a capable program that can hold its own against Topaz DeNoise AI, perform faster and likely deliver better results than its main rival.

The tone and color settings in the Develop module of ON1 Photo Raw 2022 give great one-click results that are much closer to results than I’ve ever achieved with Lightroom’s automatic settings, so I don’t have to make manual adjustments. I have never tried it and my approach to photography kind of forbids that, but it might be useful.ON1 is now producing AI-powered components for its suite, and they are effective. Sky Swap AI offers an easy way to exchange the sky in a (landscape) photograph. The program also gained several AI-powered features. Loading times of pictures remain about the same, but even here the new versions seems to be a little bit better. Now, the issues seem to have been resolved with some features added on top (yay!). Certain features like the machine learning supported Portrait AI tended to cause loading problems and crashes from time to time in the previous version. While being a reasonably stable program to start with, it is now even better. Regarding the stability, I have the impression that ON1 has improved considerably. I very much appreciate that, as especially updating export settings was cumbersome.

I never found the overall usability of ON1 Photo RAW lacking, but some things like the export dialog were improved and useful features added. What Matters…Īs a professional, I highly value speed, stability and usability in a program. A couple of days ago, I upgraded to version 2022 and here are my first impressions. Three years ago, I started using ON1 Photo RAW as my main RAW-Converter.
